Hello, I'm new and I am in need of an answer to my 1990 Mighty Max problem which is this: I've rebuilt the 2.4 Liter 4cylinder engine and put in a new computer, new main relay, new starter, new distributor cap&Rotor and new ignitor. It runs great except It is only getting spark when the ignition switch is in the run position not the start position when cranking. When the weather is warm, it starts up when I back the key off to run position and runs fine. When the weather is cold , I only get a pop when I back the key off and it won't start at all. Does anyone know what is causing this and what do I need to replace? I can smell fresh fuel coming out the exhaust after a few cranks so, I know it is ignition related and not fuel. I have had this problem ever since I've owned the truck and am stumped and have moved to where it is colder winters and my truck just sits in the parking lot only to start on a warm day. I've come to this site because I have yet to find a conclusive answer on the internet.
Thanks,
Scotty D

I was told to try and run a wire from the starter solenoid up to the + side of the coil to see if that might fix it by bypassing the problem. I also, would like to find a wiring diagram of the ignition circuit that includes the ignition switch, which I've put 4 in so far with no avail. If anyone here knows if there is a website I can download a wiring diagram that would be great. My Haynes Repair Manual is of no help since it does not have a diagram for or exactly like the 1990 but, of an earlier model. I've narrowed the problem down to being a bad wiring issue since my check engine light is not on, I've replaced the ignitor a few times and it does run great when it does start like today with the sun out and temperatures warmer than it has been.

Well, I'm cluless now and my advice to all you 2.4L MM's&D50's stock....GET RID OF THEM THEY SUCK AND ARE P.O.S'S!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm having to lose mine because I'm tired of my frustration with it and all the "NO HELP!" I get on the internet and with EVERY auto mechanic I talk to and I'm also pulling out of this stupid website here. I'm just going to have to get another reliable vehicle and certainly never a Mitsubishit again!!!!
