I finally figured that out, the relay is used for more than just the fuel pump, when I found out that it is used for the starter it finally clicked in my head lol.

After changing the fuel strainer, it has been starting up fine and I have driven it a few times since then today, but it bogs down when I depress the accelerator and while driving at low rpm's it seems to be surging. I think that may have something to do with the CEL fault, I have not been able to locate an analog meter (apparently nobody stocks them anymore) to pull the code(s). The filter I pulled out was indeed clogged and the gas was very rusty. I am now believing that the gas may be bad so I added some sta-bil to the tank along with some fresh gas.

I took the ecu out today and popped the cover off, nothing looked burnt inside, but there was a good bit of corrosion right before the area where the larger "chip" looking thing is. I cleaned off as much as I could with some MAF cleaner and re-installed. It did start up afterward fairly easy but the motor was still warm from previous driving. Is there a way to test the ecu?

No way that I know of. If there was a grayish dust like residue anywhere then the capacitors have leaked and that is the normal cause of failure. It happens to all them eventually.

It was corrosion like what you would see on a battery terminal post, that greenish white-ish stuff. Where would one go to get a computer rebuilt and anyone know a ballpark price range?

It's just crazy because once it is warmed up, it runs and starts like a champ, I drove a little over 130 miles in it today with no problems after getting it to start.

I got mine rebuilt at foreignecurepair.com Look them up and give them a call first. They will tell you how to make sure it is rebuildable before you send it. If you want to use starting fluid it will start right up cold. Also if you pinch off the return line, the rubber one, it will also start when cold. If you can match the number on your computer with one you might find on ebay it would be cheaper.

Thanks for the info dude, I found a place that sells mitsubishi computers, for around 150 bucks with your core, seems like that would be the way to go as I can only find the '94 and up comps on ebay and the part numbers are different so I don't think they will work.

So what about the MAF? I mean, when I unplug the maf, the truck starts right up and runs fine. I just noticed this a few minutes ago. Usually (from what I know) when you unplug a MAF and the vehicle runs better, that is usually what the problem is. Any input on that?

My experience has told me that the more odd the problem the more likely it is the computer. And that is odd. It shouldn't do that.

Well I tried briefly to start it this morning and it still wouldn't start so I guess I'm back to square 1. I don't want to just toss money at parts a new computer isn't cheap. I just wish there was a way to check it. Maybe I could heat the computer and kind of trick it into believing its warm?

Well I just figured out my problem, which was similar to yours. I changed the pump and filter (filter had black sludge in it) That was not the issue. I unplugged the mass air meter and for some reason i went and turned it on and it cranked right up and ran. It did run really ruff at idle but ran great under throttle. I was getting a loud popping sound through mass air meter. Cracked it open and say one of the soldered connections was broke and there were a couple burned sections on the circuit board. So my issue is the mass air meter. Maybe that helps you out.
