Have an 86 Power Ram and am installing an MSD ignition. Bugger is, I have a BUNCH of wires running to the coil, 3 of which I can't figure out. There's a thin white wire that connects to the + side and disappears into the harness (stock Tach that I don't have?), then I have 2 10-ish gauge black/white wires that connect to positive via the ballast PRIOR to the coil (I'm thinking one is battery, but where the hell does the other go? It looks like it might be power to the old computer?) My Haynes manual gives a charging circuit schematic, but not an ignition circuit (WHY??). I can get a pic tomorrow if need be, I ran myself out of daylight today.
Second issue: I need a new head (no, not that one...)
Engine is bored over (pretty close to max due to some serious scoring) and running flat pistons.
I am not currently running a header, but I may down the road.
I have a Weber 38DGES installed.
So, I want to be rid of the jet valves...no sweat. Should I go with mechanical rockers or stick with the hydraulic adjusters?
Should I get a new cam? (I haven't tested compression ratio, mostly because I need a new head) Where can I find a cam for it if so?
7/8" or 5/8" shaft?
I could probably get a street port/polish done, but would it be worth the not insubstantial cost?
The reman head will be ~$500, the fewer things I HAVE to do to it, the better. I have too much to do to this truck before August.
Couple things to keep in mind:
I'm doing all this to increase pulling power without killing my fuel mileage completely. It's a bit of a balancing act.
The more low-end torque I can create, the better IMO.
Thank you, much.
