diesel conversion

i have an 87 mm 4wd, with the 2.6 carburated. i was wondering if anyone has some info on a diesel conversion? is it worth it and how to go about it? also what would this truck be considered? the base, spx, 1 ton? im not sure. any input is appriciated possibly good sites to order parts from? thanks

I can't help with how to determine the 'level' of the truck model. I have an SPX, but no info except for the Starion turbo.

I did that conversion on my 89. The conversion is pretty straight forward, but you really need a donor truck because of the parts needed other than the engine. I bought a 'rebuilt' engine, and most of the parts I needed came with it. Not having ever seen one in the truck was a challenge. After it was done it was rather cool, but I broke a piston after about 5K. Watch for Chinese parts!!! I was not impressed with power even though it ran good. If I knew then what I know now I would not have done it because the parts are so expensive and rare. Any question, let me know.
