hi everyone i just picked up an 87 mighty max with out an engine, but everything else is intact.
then it also came with short block that's off of 1980 d50,
& i also picked up an 88 cylinder head. so my main question is
can i use this 80 block & 88 cylinder head? any info could help, thanx in advance.

Hi,

It depends on what engine(s) the parts are from.

79-82 2.0 liter engine with a timing chain

83-89 2.0 liter engine with a timing belt G63B

The blocks are different between these engines, therefore nothing will swap between these 2.0 liter engines.

I believe all G54b 2.6 liter engines are the same. All have timing chains.

Parts will not swap between the 2.6 liter and the 2.0 liter engines.

4G64 2.4 liter engines. Almost the same block as the 2.0 liter G63B engine. The deck height is different. This engine has a timing belt and the heads will swap between them. The 4G64 engine is fuel injected and the head does not have a fuel pump provision.

Another thing you should consideration if your transmission will bolt up to the engine. There are narrow block engines and wide-block engines and you need the correct transmission bolt pattern.
