ya, the cam gear teeth lined up with the arrow on the side of the head, also at the bottom of the block, the timing is correct, ( i went off the book) im 99.9% i have the timing belt correct, the thing im not sure off is the distribuator, when i installed it, i set it right in the middle, and it turned on on the 2nd crank, ever scene i havnt messed with it, i figure if it stays on i must of done my work coorrect, dont really drive it far, but in the last month or so, every time i drive out of town it over heats almost to max, i need to turn on the heater to cool it down, and when i turn it off i leave on the electric fan to cool it down faster......... also when i bolted up the crank pully it dosnt show any numbers or marks, the only mark it has is for the timing belt, how would i set the timing on the distribuator?

there should be a notch on the pulley, it might only be a slight one but it will be there. Sounds like you have the other timing set up correctly

Check the goose neck were the thermostat is and make sure its not up side down. It will make it heat. Cause it want let all the air out. I've run n to this b for. Just check it. The hole that is n the goose neck should be on the top side pointing toward the driver side.

Does it push water out the exhaust or overflow tank?
