I have a 86 2.6L D50 with the auto transmission.
I got on the highway and was going 65mph when suddenly the truck just died. It restarted when I hit the accelerator, and died in the same manner again.
I fought it getting home, it wants to die when you get on the gas.
I got it to go a 1/2 block and now it wont start, but will run on starter fluid.
I am thinking a fuel pump?
I know the last fuel pump was rubbing against a head bolt when it died.
I have also been fighting a broken egr valve, I just plugged the hole and capped the vacuum line.
Any input is appreciated,
Thanks!

i ripped the egr valve out of my truck a month after i got it bc it had a big hole in it and it use to do the same with the cutting off but it was just the float in that pos carburetor that it had but when i went to rebuild the carb i couldnt seperate the top plate from the middle plastic body so i throw it away and replaced it with a weber but if u can just rebuild that overly complicated carb it has but if u get fed up with it let me know ill buy it from u

I hope it is not the carb. It has been freshly rebuilt, however it did take National Carburetors 3 times to get a choke on it that worked.
I have been driving with it for the entire winter, it has been stumbling during acceleration since the dealership tuned it down (was running rich).
I thought it might be the fuel pump because of how the rpms slowly died.
Also checked for spark and compression which were both good.
Do you still think it is the carb?
Thanks!

Mine had very similar issues and I tired of tinkering with it... so I bought the Weber conversion kit.

well after replacing the pump and fuel filter, I am still not getting gas.
Something must be stuck in the line or pickup in the tank.

Blew out the line and found some nasty brown gas... Something in there must have been clogging the line on top of some bad gas.
Now to fix the hesitation issue...
