I was just trying to replace the valve cover gasket and misread the book. Over-torqued it to the point where I shattered the tab(?). I'm not sure if that's what it's called. It's the threaded piece that connects the rocker arms? Everybody I talk to keeps telling me to tap it or use a threaded insert but I don't think they understand I SHATTERED it. There is nothing there. The part to thread into broke into several pieces and powder.

Yes. I'm an idiot.

But the question remains, what is the actual name of the piece I broke? And how far will I have to dig into this to fix my mistake?

-edit-

suppose I should mention its an 87 2.6 D50

Well I suppose for the sake of the index, I should post the answer to my own question.

I remember these forums being a lot more active once upon a time.

The answer to the riddle would be the "Front Bearing Cap". The reason Napa was clueless, they do not carry the part. Off to the wrecking yards.
