I just recently did a weber conversion, 32/36 also switched over to an electronic fuel pump. I think this thing must be just dumping fuel down the exhaust because the cat starts glowing red after about 5 minutes of it running. Fuel consumption is way up as well.

Has anyone run in to this, and/or have any suggestions on how to remedy the matter?

Looks like I might have a bad spark plug wire. I pulled the #4 cylinder wire and the thing that connects to the plug came out. Also the engine didn't run any different when it was disconnected.

Well yep, that was it. Not only the #4 cylinder was down but the plug on #2 was totally fouled. When I got them both back up and running it turns out the idle while set to 800rpm for two cylinders was pretty much exactly double that when all four were running. No wonder I went through half a tank in 30 miles.

Put on some new wires and new plugs just to be safe, retuned the carb. Runs like a bat out of hell now.

A side comment, has anyone with the weber noticed the spring not being heavy enough to close the throttle? If I just step on the gas and let it go back to idle it'll idle at around 900-950. I can go in there though and give the throttle a little nudge down and it'll take it back down to where I originally tuned it at right around 800. If it sets long enough it eventually works its way back closed.

yea I noticed the same thing about the spring when I had a Weber, I just added another spring and problem solved. Glad to hear you got her running good again

Do you have a pic of that double spring setup? I'd like to see just how you did it.

No this was a few years/engines ago. I just added another spring right next to the original one

Was yours like this? This is what I have on mine. I'm wondering if when I changed out the throttle connection bit if it came undone at all and just didn't get wound all the way back up.

Oh mine also had another spring going to a part of the throttle piece and the carb adapter

Ah yeah I get what you're saying. That spring you're taking about, at least for me, just controls the 36mm butterfly. It's the 32 that's not fully closing. I'm gonna pop it back apart and see if I can give that spring another wrap or at least a bend further back so it has more springy action. I'll just make a new thread on it when I do that so as not to further pollute my cat post =D
