Children sending off a letter to Santa can now get a personal reply, with a little parental help. The Postal Service will postmark the replies from North Pole, Alaska and deliver them to the eager youngsters, the agency said Wednesday.

Here's how it works:

Parents first help the tots prepare their annual gift list, intended for Santa, and keep the letter in a safe place. Then, when the child is elsewhere, write a personal response. If the child might recognize the handwriting, ask a friend to write it.

Place the response in a stamped envelope addressed to the child, including a North Pole return address. Put that envelope inside a larger one and mail it to:

The Postal Service will apply a North Pole, Alaska, postmark to the letter and deliver it back to the youngster. Two requests from the post office: Write early, the letters need to be in Fairbanks by Dec. 15 to be sure of being returned on time, and teach the little ones how to address their mail properly.
