How to plumb for nitrogen

I have no experience running a bottle, and was wondering how a system is plumbed. I've heard of people running a nitro. bottle, and having a reg. compressor/air tank in reserve. How do you switch between the two? Is a seperate set of switches/valves needed? Thanks for any help.
