My grandpa's showing me how to weld; that way when I get outta debt and get a project truck, I'll be ready to go to town. I have a few questions, though1.) Will an arc welder work for frame notching, shaving, etc.(the usual minitruckin' metal mods) I ask because that's what my grandpa has in his garage (he can do any type of welding, just has an arc in his garage), plus arc welders seem to be significantly less expensive than a MIG welder.2.) My main issue is with seeing what I want to weld through the welding hood. I feel like I can't even really see where my two pieces of metal join until I start the spark, but by then, if I'm off, the bead's pretty sloppy. Is there anything I can do about that, or is it just something I'm going to grow used to?3.) My grandpa also mentioned teaching me to acetelyne weld, with a torch. I've seen the crew on American Chopper welding with a torch and some rod, but I was wondering if that has any uses in the custom world, or if that'll just serve as a cool thing to know how to do.
