ok since there seem to be tons of people on here that need some info on glassin here is a step by step procedure for a sub enclosure. this is still yet a very basic design, that i did for my girlfriends car.
1- here you see the basic wood form of the enclosure. the only thing that will be seen when it's finished is the top, as a trim plate will be covering the rest. this box is about 2.1cubes from the top. im only using kicker comp VR subs so nothing has to be dead on. they work great in almost any size enclosure. make the rings that the subs will sit on and start the baffle board. i wanted them to be slanted, facing each other and comming from each diagonal corner.
2- i like to use felt or fleece as a form. you can use tape, cardboard, light cloth like cotton or grill cloth the same way. stretch it over the rings to acheive the desired shape. this step is very important as it dictates the final shape of the product.
3- this shows the enclosure with about 3 layers of glass. i only did 3 because i use very strong 1.5 ounce chop mat with a very high quality polyester resin. plus the subs arent the biggest or baddest ones out so overkill is not needed.although i did reinforce every corner with extra mat.
4- here is the enclosure grinded down with the first layer of body filler. you will usually have to grind down some spots where the mat stood up or wrinkles appeared. i like to use duraglass as a first coat to add some nice weight and strength to the box.
5- after another type of body filler was applied (i like to use featherite by USC)and sanded w/ 36,60,100 it's straight with no dips or humps. this is probably the longest step. its ready for primer.
6- it's know paint ready after around 5-7 coats of primer. it was wet sanded with 220,400 and 600.
i hope this helps a few people. i'll post some pics when its all finished and installed in the wifey's car. and if you go to my owner profile you can blow the pics up.
