Can you weld re-bar?

I was just wondering, could re-bar be used as a body reinforcement, say, on a hopping vehicle? Can it be welded? I am assuming that it's just ordinary steel but I haven't checked any out in awhile and I know it flexes to a certain point.

Anyone in here who has built hoppers or drag cars that need body reinforcements, if you have any tips that would be cool too.
