I keep seeing everyone talking about a frame being "z'd". What does this mean??

on toyota trucks when airbagged they dont lay true frame without modification to the frame up front and the tranny cross member. once on the pavement the first thing to touch would be the tranny crossmember because it hangs lower than the rest of the frame. once that crossmember is cut down, or cut out and have a new one mounted to be flush with the frame. the second crossmember to hit the ground before the frame is the front crossmember, its the one that connects the two lower control arms right below the oil pan. in order for that to be moved up so it lays flush with the rest of the frame you have to do whats called a "Z" on the frame which means you cut the frame right before the firewall and and slide everything up an inch or so. it will create something like this ----_____. all of your front suspension is then moved upward. however in doing this your front frame horns will have to drop the same amount so your fenders bodylines, hood, etc all line up correctly with the rest of the truck. your oil pan will also have to be sectioned which is basically cutting off the third hump on your oil pan so it doesnt drag on the ground. stock its fine, but once "z-ed" the oil pan hangs lower than the frame. i prolly went into a little more detail than you wanted but just incase there it is.

Hell no, that was awesome. Thank you very much. Now that you explained it, I think I've seen it done in a few posts here. I was wondering why the frame looked like it was sort of zig-zagged, but now I know. Thanks bro.

Hell, since you answered that so well, any idea how to get pictures to the "in the garage section"?? If not, no biggie. Thanks again.

PS> Nice rims. I got the same one's in 20's on a 92 extra cab.

You click the "garage" link on top of this page, then click "create vehicle" on the left side of the next page and then you can write all the info about the truck. Then it should take you to the upload pictures screen and you can upload your pics. But they have to be at most 1024 x 1024. So if they arent then you will have to resize them.

Hope that explains it.

Your help is great. Thanks. Any help on how to resize pics to fit?? I could only get one pic in, but I had to chop the shit out of it just to fit a rear rim in.

You can use a photo editing software like Photoshop or you can try this.

you can also down load a resizing program from myspace or open a photobucket account (they're free) and resize it that way.
