anyone ever done a tacoma rear end, or know how much it costs roughly to get shortened.

Yup. Just buy new Moser axles. They run about $150-$250 an axle. Toyota axles can't be machined shorter because of the way they are made.

Having the housing shortened shouldn't cost more than $300. But its easy to do yourself really.

or put an older toyota rear in it with narrower width for about 100-150 and clean it up and paint it.

the axle that came in your truck is 3/4" shorter on each side. an axle from an 84ish is shorter than that.

but the lug pattern is different

my buddy mike bodydropped his taco with 20's and instead of narrowing his rearend he just swapped in a different rear end out of an older truck i think he used an 84-88 which is shorter than the 89-95 which is shorter than the taco. i think the rear ends out of the pre 84 trucks were even shorter than that but im not 100% sure.

the lug pattern shouldnt be a big deal, just keep it in mind when you get wheels. (if you dont have them alread)

84-04 2wd 1/2 ton toyota pickup trucks all use 5x4.5(114.3mm). centerbore decreased in 95.5.

The 79-83 axle is 55" wide, and the 73-78 is 53" wide.

If it is a 2wd the bolt pattern is the same from 1969-2004
