My buddy installed a Viair 550c compressor not too long ago and it shit the bed not three hours after he installed it. It didnt want to push any air out. We tested the check valve in the air line and it was working properly. Figuring since we cant make this POS any worse we rip it apart and notice aluminum shavings everywhere. Crank housing, piston, air intake....and the mylar piston ring looked like my dog got a hold of it. So we assume thats the problem. The cylinder wall is scored also. My questions are 1. Are these compressors supposed to have oil in the crank housing? There looks like there is supposed to be a gasket where the housing attaches to the motor, but there is none. 2. Does Viair make rebuild kits for these compressors? We're having problems trying to figure out how to remove the mylar ring. It looks like it might be pressed on the piston. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks
