How would i go about doing this??

i got an 85 blazer and i want to spilt the tailgate in half so instead of it opening down i want the 2 pieces to swing open sideways. i'm pretty sure you understand what i mean. so how would i go about doing this? i want gonna re-enforce the tailgate, cut it up the middle (just missing the hinge for the window) then weld the inside up were the new hinges would go. then to make the doors swing open i was thinking of using suburban back door hinges but hiding them so they don't stick out. what does everyone think? any help would really be great, thanks. - Jason
