cleaning engine with pressure washer?

really all i want to do is clean the engine block and fire wall since its caked up. if i cover or remove the sensors, fuse box, etc. it should be alright to do right? with the exception of respecting the 2500 psi. also if i can or you guys do, did you use any type of degreaser.
