9" too much!?!?

Alright I am about to buy my new wheels for my truck and I am stuck on whether or not to get 20x8.5 or 20x9's. Is 9" too much for the back of a first gen S-10? I've heard of people running them, but I am just wondering if there is anything more than cutting out the wheel wells and inner bedside. Chris
