shaving accord moldings

My molding is off and sanded. There is a dip were the molding used to sit in. Do I need to weld each of the holes? If so, does the sheet metal need to fit inside the hole, or can I just weld a slightly larger size sheetmetal over the hole, since it is indented and no need for smoothness? And finally, do I just fill the rest in with filler, or something else? Ive never done any kind of body work, so any help would be much appreciated. Ill ask about the door handles once I tackle the moldings.
