Polishing clear coated wheels

I found a set of Z71 wheels for my B2200 but the clear is chiped pretty bad, could i jus strip all the clear off and Polish them, i know polished aluminium is hard to keep clean/shiny but i was thinking get them cleared again after polishing..?
