can you paint rims?

I have an idea, and I dont know if it will work if at all. Looking to paint the centers of my wheels the body color of my truck and still keep the polished or chrome lip. can aluminum wheels be painted(I am guessing that most rims are aluminum now) if they are powder coated silver already , do you have to strip them first? is there a special prep process? special paint(i was gunna use left over HOK from my paint job) any help would be a big help
