I've asked numerous people and so far either not sure, thought it was steel, or it's cast. I've even looked up the OOOLLLDDD mini-truckin' magazines with the 5-6lug conversion tech articles and says nothing about what material the hubs are. I'm currently looking to redrill my dakota hubs, yet question popped up from machinist is it's cast, they don't want to be liable for cracking. Now if hubs hold the entire vehicle from the wheels from flying off going down the road, wouldn't the be another type of material other then some cheap cast? I've compared it to my mazda redrilled hubs, and the material the hubs are made of seems to be the same, as with S-10's, toyota, nissan, etc... hell all factory hubs looks to be the same material. But no one knows what material? Funny, I've even called up some catalog race companies that have after market hubs & rotors and talked to techincal service and they wasn't sure either. This is getting rediculous, it shouldn't be rocket science, or is it? Someone has to know, because instead of trying to tell the local machinists that they're wrong and it's ok to redrill into hubs, I wanna know myself... And if anyone knows, please give alittle more info, example if it is cast, what type of cast? If it's forged, alittle insight would be good as some knowledge on it... I know cast will crack eventually if welded incorrectly, I've seen TONS of people welding 4 links to their cast pumkins and try to explain to them that is DANGEROUS!!!!!! Anyways, someone with some knowledge please shead some light... Cause next step would be to call up the engineering department for dodge or any company for that matter... Thanks a million if I get good knowledged answer!!!!
