Question for the Tattoo know it alls...

I know that each tattoo has it's own meaning to each individual but I just wanted some feedback on the meaning of a tattooed tear. I've heard if you've killed someone you get it on one side and if you've lost someone you get it on the other side. Give me some feedback and what you guys think about them....
