chop top

Does anyone know what's involved in doing a chop top? I don't know if it's something I have to get done professionally or if it can be done at home with help. Do I need to buy custom glass or maybe that plastic type material? I heard someone mention something about setting back the pillars? I really have no clue what's involved and any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
