How did you hook up your tach?

I was looking at the wires that go to the dimmer switch on my 1994 to hook up my tach light so it dims with everything else. On most cars you can put your test light on the wire and ground it to the body, and the light will dim as you turn the knob. The light only dims when I hook the ground wire to the second wire on the switch, it will just stay full bright when I ground to body. I guess I could hook the tachs ground to the second wire also, but it says it needs to be a solid body ground and I don't really want to mess up my new $99 tach.

Anyone know what I'm talking about. I know there are probably some tach experts here that can tell me if I'm gonna mess up my tach. I might just run the tach at full bright and ground to the body just to be safe.
