Need help with Fuel Cell !!

Ok, so I bought this fuel sell from Summit last week. Now a friend tells me I bought the wrong kind of cell, but I don't know. It's the first one I've ever used.

I've got a '94 Ranger with the 2.3L 4-cyl. I think I need an external fuel pump for this fuel cell to work and to not have to cut it up. See the pic below. I'd like to make it work like it is so it will be a clean installation. How can I make this work?
