Hey guys,
I'm in process of installing a fuel cell in my 92 regular cab. I searched before and never found anything worth mentioning about people doing this. The reason I wanted to use stock parts is availability. If my pump or sender goes out I want to be able to change it asap. This cell started as a RCI 15 gal fuel cell with no sender. I cut the top off and sectioned the tank to make it fit under the bed better and measure about 12.4 gallons. I made a "cage" out of steel that holds it under the bed. The brackets that are welded on the sides are not designed to hold the weight of the tank, only to locate it sitting on a trunk floor or truck bed. Anyone who knows aluminum knows they will rip right off. So I got the installed how I want it and then dtermined the location of the pump and sender. The sender is easy, just bend the rod to make it read correctly. TIP-don't make Empty when it sits on the bottom. Make Empty with 1" below the float. Trust me, it will save many headaches. I attached pictures of the pump. I just cut it down and bent it to be straight to fit my tank, and anyone can do the same for theirs. This keeps the stock pressure line and return. You just need a vent, which I'm using the rollover valve for. The extra vent, and two sump fittings are blocked off.
