manual steering??????

i just bought a manual steering box out of a chevelle and i started looking at it and the part that haaks up to teh tierods is infront of hte box and in our s10's its behind the box. i tried just fliping around that peice but i cant get the nut loose and i didnt really try that hard either but would everything be off if i did this? also has anyone went to manual steering what box did they use?
