1/4 inch spacers

I am going to be running a 1/4 inch spacer on my sonoma for my new wheels. I have not done this B-4 and was wondering is there any precautions I need to take, do I just tighten them every week. Give me the DO'S & DON'T of the spacers. Thanks.
