lower ball joint?

ok how much of a diffrence does flipping the lower ball joint actaully make?will not flipping it actually keep from layin the crossmember?just curious doesnt seem like it would make that big of a diff,i know im wrong obviously cuz everyone does it to lay i was just curious how high it will keep u up if u dont flip them.
