My friend has an 81 El Camino and we pulled the dash to smooth and paint it. It's thin plastic or vinyl with sponge underneath it. There's some vents and shit we want to eliminate, but I'm not sure how to shave out the vents and prep the rest of the dash for paint. Would it be best to wrap the whole thing in mat/fleece and glass it, then skim it with a filler, or is there a better way to go about it?
I'm worried about the sponginess of the dash, and how any kind of filler may just pull away from it if I just skimmed the whole dash without lying down some mat first.
