Tranny options

Im just wondering if there are any other transmissions,besides stock s-10/blazer, that will bolt up to a 4.3 without an adapter plate(ie turbo 350). i ask because i hear that the 4.3 is basically a 350 with two cylinders chopped off so just wondering if i have other tranny options. thanks for the input.
