How do I take off the needles on my guage cluster??

I've got an Electro-luminecent gauge onlay that I wanna put on but, I've heard that alot of folks break a guage trying to take needles off? So I'm wondering if there's any tricks to doing this? How's the best way? I've got an '01 F-150 SuperCrew.
