OK i own a 96 Ranger 2.3L and it has two ignition coils.

When I bought the truck from my buddy he told me that the truck needed an ignition coil, so I went and bought a new one. I try to start the truck with both hooked up, it won't start. But if I turn it on with only one coil hooked up it starts, and then I can plug in the other coil and the truck runs good.

Does anyone have any help they can give me to make it start with both coils hooked up? I am just lost because I am use to Chevy's and what not. This Ford is kicking my ass, plus I have a check engine light on.
