87 Crx motor

I was given a crx for my girlfriend, Body is in excellent shape Interior is in good condition. The car was running the last time I saw it. Now the motor needs to be rebuilt. Should I re-build the d15a2? Swap out for somthing stronger? What kind of price ranges am I looking at for either one? Any Help is appreciated.
