?how to prepfor paint?

i've got a 98 accord that i want to paint w/ some silver base coat and HOK kandy organic green on top....my question is before i paint the primer, do i need to completly strip the paint off of the car(it's stock paint job), or do i just need to sand it a lil in order for the paint to stick?
