Cleaning up axle

Is there a Trick or an easy way of removing the stock leaf mounts on the axle? Also, does anyone see a problem with grinding the welds down that are on the axle? Its an 84 I want it to be clean looking and I have never bothered to clean up the axle on any previous projects, but this one is different.

Sawzall the big shit, then grind the small shit. Use the edge of a grinder wheel. Then use different grit flap wheels to blend it out nice. Finish out with 80 grit or higher. Be careful to not remove too much material.

You can clean up those welds, just don't remove too much.
