I was goin down the highway last night and my truck started to sputter and stuff and the temp gauge was slightly over halfway to hot. I pulled over for 15 minutes and started it back up and it was running rough and not idling but at least it was running. So I turned around to head back home and the temp gauge went down and everything seemed fine for about 15 minutes until it started cutting out again and the temp went back up to where it went the first time. I pulled over and checked the oil and the coolant again; neither appeared to be low but I heard quite a bit of gurgling around in the coolant system. I let it sit 15 minutes again and started it back up and drove the rest of the 40 minutes home without a problem. It started rough again and tried to idle when I took it out of gear. It would idle for like 3-15 seconds and then drop off and try to die. It has never overheated before in the 2000 miles I have driven it but it burns a lot of oil... it smoked a lot more than normal last night before the overheating problems and I added a half quart the first time I pulled over and checked the oil and coolant. Is this a sticky thermostat that would make it randomly overheat and start running rough or is it something else?
