step shaver install...

i started to mock up my step shavers before i mount them tomorrow (hopefully) and i had to trim parts of the bracket that holds the tailgate to the bed (on the bottom, where it rotates from open to close) and i even had to trim some of the left step shaver because it was sticking out and too thick for everything to line up.....my question is??? is this normal? did anyone have to make some new mounting brackets because you had to remove alot of the old stuff?? did everything line up like you expected?? thanks for any input.....
