hey every1 newby to this forum. 1st time DIY trucker from down unda and just after sum info on removing the springs set in the rear of my truck so that i have only the main and load carrying springs left in the stack. i was wondering on what sort of approach i should take at removing these springs from the stack myself. will i have to heat them up with an oxy torch, etc n remove the pins/clamps which hold then together and pull them out that way? or cut them off all together? i have a spare set of rear springs for my 84 lux which i am going to try it on myself . planning on fitting 3inch blocks with these with bump stops removed. im happy with the way the whole project is starting to turn out (especially now that i have it painted) but not happy with the nose bleed i get everytime i look at the back of ma truck. lol. any info on this subject would be great. anything at all. thx

you shouldnt have to heat them up. you can just use a crow bar and pry the clamp open. support the truck to the axle is just hanging there to relieve some of the tension off of the spring. be careful when you pry the clap off of the spring pack. if it were me i would run the main leaf as well as the overload leaf. just take out the center one and bump stops. also, make sure you get new U-bolts for when you put the blocks in. the stock ones will be too short.

thx for the help mate wasn't to sure is they needed heat coz i know u need it when you re-set them. but let me get this straight. There is the main leaf (connecting the pack to the hangers) then 3 leafs below it. Do you just remove the leaf below the main leaf? this is the one thats just a little, little bit smaller then the main and has the clamps on ether end. or do u mean the one under that which is alot smaller? sorry bout the stupid questions, just wana have it all clear before i attack my springs. lol thx again

I allways put a jack under the rear end and have the truck on jack stands. Then I undo the u bolts And put clamps on either side of the center bolt then undo the center bolt in the leaf pack the i loosen the clamps the little folded over parts on each end are nothing a pry bar or good screw driver will bend them out of the way. Now if it is a 3 leaf pack just take out the middle leaf clamp back together and but the bolt back in and cut off the extra of the bolt. If it is a 4 leaf you are gonna want to take out the top of the two middle leafs and repeat the rest of the steps. Just remeber the clamps if not you take your hand off with that center bolt
