fuel cell delima

i drive a 2000 ranger.. here are my delima's....i have three lines coming out my sending unit out my fuel cell... two of which have to go to the fuel filter ... question one... when i hook these back up to the fuel filter assuming one is send and one is return does it matter which on ei hook up to which of the two nipples that comne out that one side of the filter? also.....that leaves one line untouched coming out the fuel cell... ok so assuming the two lines that are hardline would be my send and return am i correct on that? the other one might have come from the carbon canister? not sure..... the guy who started my work cut everything off and neglected to fill me in. any diagram, pictures or help woul dbe greatly appreciated... ok so heres my last part of the questions...i took the carbon canister off.... if indeed that third one is for the carbon canister.... what should i do with it ? cap it off? one of my freidsn said it was a vent... it doesnt look like just a ven.. when i take the seding unti out the fuel cell it looks like that line goes to something.... deffinalty doensnt suck up gas but may do something else... my hanes manual couldnt tell me.... any help would be awesome...
