Lanzar's newest stuff really isn't that bad. When "Quality Car Audio" bought the company, it was ugly. Their speakers were pretty much Pyramid or Pyle quality with the exception of the old US made inventory. This completely ruined the Lanzar reputation. However, they recently released a newer line of Optidrive equipment and it's not half bad. Steer clear of the Vibe, Heritage, and Encore stuff. It's from the transition days. You can still buy brand new Optidrive amplifiers that were made by Zed Audio. And the subs are a great product for the price. I would much rather have a Lanzar Optidrive sub that just about any other brand in the same price range. (Key here is price range). I would opt for the Opti500x2 though rather than the 1400D. It is one of the Zed designs and will put out more than enough power for one of those subs.
Bottom line, two of those subs wired for 4 ohm each and a 500x2 bridged to each would be a very very nice setup. I have a similar setup. Two Opti1234D subs and an old school Opti2500 (virtually the same amp as the 500x2). My subs are DVC 4ohm. I'm running them in series-parallel to achieve a 4ohm load to the single amp and it's great. Amp runs nice and cool and the speakers are getting just the right amount of power with the gain at about 70%. The key to all of this is that I spent about a week plugging away on the computer designing the box. If I put any subs into an incorrectly configured box it could sound worse than two 6x9's.
I'm not going to knock a bunch of brands and tell you that Lanzar is the best and all the others suck. There are lots of great products out there. There are also lots of better subs out there but I haven't found anything better for the same price and no one can argue against amps designed by Zed Audio.
