^uh... that dont really have anything to do with the topic, but when i zed my frame and bodydropped my truck i had to add a 3rd joint to the steering column, so it went down from the steeringwheel, then a u-joint, then out the firewall straight, over the control arm, then ujoint, then down, then ujoint into the steering box. really complicated sounding, but you wouldnt need to do it if you arent bodydropped.

i shortend the sliding part on the shaft and added another knuckle. and had to weld a carrier bearing on the frame to keep it from floppin around. I'd suggest putting a knuckle inside the cab and cutting out and moving the shaft on the firewall. that would have saved me LOADs of trouble. but i'm setup to clear 22"s up front on a b/d. Drunk right now too. yayyyyyyyy

Like others mentioned you don't have to do anything with the steering shaft if you're not body dropping with large wheels. For simple Z and laying frame you don't need to do anything with your steering. I ended up cutting, and reworking my steering shaft MANY times until I got it to work just right without using a bunch of U-joints.
