How big of a compressor needed?

i just wanna spray some primer, I have a house compressor thats rated at 3hp at 40psi, not sure how many gallons it is, but do u think that will be able to handle it?

depends on how much primer you need to spray! i would think that pretty much anything w/ a tank should handle little spots for repairs, but you'd need the same capacity as you would for paint if you want to primer your whole vehicle.

ya itd be for the whole truck, but couldnt u do like a panel at atime?

yeah, you could, but you will need to actually mask each panel in order to not get the overspray on the panel next to it and get a smoother finish, don't forget to drain the tank often if it's running a lot... can i ask why your priming the whole truck?

it's been said before, but here's why i think that's a bad idea: 1. it looks like the bed and cab already on your truck probably have factory paint on them, that's easy to prep for a repaint. 2. primer is not a topcoat that protects whats under it (with some exceptions...) 3. when you decide to repaint it, pretty much anybody worth paying to paint it is going to charge a ton more because they will need to take all that primer back off in order to warranty their paint work and provide a quality job. 4. the primer costs money that could be put towards getting the nice paint job. 5. the primer will hide small dings and damage to your truck that the final painter may not see to repair because it's in primer and then you won't be happy with the final product.

that said, i do like the primered look, but it's really just not a good idea to do it. especially when your not trying to really hide shit and make a turd look polished... your truck looks too nice to primer it!

yah im aware of having to redo most of it when it comes to painting it, and I know I would need to seal the truck then primer right? or get a primer/sealer, its just that my truck wont be painted for such a long time, i just want to see it in 1 color
