I'm jus starting the body work on my ranger since i'm waitin for the engine work to be done. In alot of areas especially around my cali combo theres alot of bondo and i broke it loss up to my taillight bucket so my 1st ? is do i have to strip it down to bare metal all over or jus where theres alot of bondo cuz theres really jus a slight skim coat in most areas. My other ? is can the combo be fixed since it's torn away from the bed. I'm hopin it can be since the bed is molded and i don't wanna go to all the work for a new combo. Sorry for the long post but I was jus curious bout these things

honestly man you can do it but i wouldnt recomend it. The hardner in the filler or fiberglass will react with the primer. The best thing to do is to take back to the factory applied paint or to bare metal and if you take it to bare metal make sure you use a godd acid etching primer. Like i said you can do it but if you want you paint job to last i wouldnt recomend it.

just take it down to bare metal and start over!!!!!! now depending on how bad it broke that area i guess it could be fixed.. but you gotta be carefull since you already welded it once and that area will become weaker cuz of the heat zone of the welds.. soo you might wanna reinforce it and next time drag the front X member not tailgate skin!

take it to bare metal.. if you put filler on top of primmer its just going to flake when u sand it and it wont stick anyways
grind it first

it wont hurnt nuthin if u havea slight imperfection, but big stuff id grind all the paint off.
