Is a 22RE block and head from a 1989-1995 yota the same as a 22R from a 1984-1988 yota?

yes, 85-88 are the same, I have an 84 22r, which is a totally different beast. It loks the exact same, but the block is 1/4" taller,(which uses a totally different timing cover too), it also uses a head with cups for the valves, and uses dome-top pistons.

fun huh?

I got a Question. I thought about this last night. Is the cubic inches or cc the same between the 2. Also, if the 84 block is 1/4 in taller than the 85-95, are the connecting rods and crank different? If they rods are taller and the crank has a different stroke, if I put the rods and crank from an 84 block, put it into a 85-95 block and bored it .030 over, that would be a nice 22r stroker. If I was home, I would check. I am in Germany until 2008 and both yotas are sitting in storage.

The early and late 22R use the same crankshaft and connecting rods, the piston design was changed to accomadate the difference in deck height.
Also the 20R used the same crank and rods as the 22R's FYI
