well swapping a ECU is not going to help if ur cars not fuel injected, i dont know if autos came in the 22R, if they did u will have to change a fiar bit.
i dont know for sure but..
flywheels different,.
ud have to chuck the pedal setup and all the cylinder, dam it be a lot of work, most ppl i know usually swap from auto to manual. but as i said b4 i dont know if autos even came in toyotas that early

they did come that early, far back as at least early 70's, they just werent a very popular option since they were 3 speeds. I just ditched the 3 speed auto from my 77 for a 5 speed from a 79. My only probs so far have been since my truck is coil spring an the 79 has torsion the tranny crossmember is several inches too far forward on my truck and the speedo cable is different. But to answer your question you are gonna need a flexplate, tourqe converter, auto tranny, auto shifter, since I'm not exactly sure if they were a floor mount like mine was or a colum mount you might need more, of course your gonna need the correct cable or linkage for the shifter and tranny also. you will prob either need a radiator from an auto truck that has the tranny cooler in it or an aftermarket tranny cooler. My 3speed shifter had the reverse lockout on it but not sure bout the newer ones, might need a longer or shorter driveshaft also, as long as you stick with the same year/ bodystyle you shouldnt have a crossmember prob like I did.

I'm getting ready to put an '87 22r and auto tranny in a '91 that was originally a 5-speed. I don't know a lot about it yet, but i should be doing it in the next couple of weeks. I do know that the '87 has an electric overdrive switch.

i think i am just going to take one for the team and either find a wrecked truck with the 22re and auto or just figure out a deal with taprecycling!! so if anybody has a 22re that they are doing a swap or they want to carb please let me know close to ohio of course!
