I have been using a regular bosch style relay but it got moisture in it and it fried itself somehow, so i was thinking and i decided to go and buy a starter solenoid relay and see if that would do the trick but its running pretty hot and it doenst like working. I wanted to get some ideas as to what would be a good switching mechanism that is sealed from the elements and will be able to be mounted under my bed.

None...use relays...Dont waste your time with a starter solenoid.

thats what i was using before but water corroded it so i was wondering if there was a sealed option. I had to drive the whole way back from esob without nitrogen or a comrpessor.

i hear old ford solenoids are the way to go since my compressor won't run off of a relay without burning it up

stinger 80 amp solenoid

do a search on ebay, you can run 2 comps off one of those things and they're sealed

We use a battery charging solenoid...like the ones pheonix gold used to sell but a generic type. $18 Canadian is what we pay for them. Good for up too 80 amps.

how many compressors are you running? Are you running an in line fuse holder. You should have no problem running relays. If they are getting wator corrosion try wrapping them up in some electrical tape or mounting them under your bed somewere they wont see the elements. I used a solenoid out of a ford bronco. I went through 3 of them and they all sucked. I have had the same relays for the past 2 years now and they work great.

the big thing with the relays is not their peak amp rating but what they are rated to handle continously. I wanted to find one that was good to use contiously for a long time.
